Councilmember Tande joined Mayor Wolcott and Councilmembers Hall and Winters for the tree lighting ceremony at the 14th Annual Surprise Party on Dec. 4.
On Tuesday, October 20, the Surprise City Council recognized Eric Bennett, a long-time Surprise resident and teacher at Shadow Ridge High School, who won a gold medal in the Men’s Open Recurve Division at the World Archery Para Championships in Donaueschingen, Germany this past August. The victory guarantees Eric’s participation in the 2016 Para Olympics in Rio next summer. He also captured the silver medal at the Para Pan Games in Toronto.
Councilman Tande shared a handshake and welcomed Governor Ducey to Surprise on September 17. The Governor visited Surprise’s Sunset Hills Elementary to read a class of second graders the story “We the People” in honor of Constitution Day.
Mayor Wolcott and members of City Council joined IRIS USA, Inc. and its parent company IRIS Ohyama Inc. in breaking ground for the Company’s new Western United States Regional Headquarters facility in Surprise on May, 21, 2015.
The new facility will house some 420,000-square-feet of manufacturing, distribution and office space and initially employ approximately 100 people, the bulk of whom will be recruited from the local area. The facility will be located within the city’s Southwest Railplex Industrial District and is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2016.
During the April 21 City Council Meeting, City Manager Bob Wingenroth and the Surprise City Council recognized Athena Wireless, the city’s first AZ Techcelerator client, for its success! The company, which develops high capacity wireless connectivity systems, was acquired by Google Inc. this year.
Councilman Tande attended a celebration on April 21 that marked the completion of Mountain Vista Ranch Well #2.
Councilman Tande shakes the hands of kids and coaches participating in Cal Ripken Day at Surprise Stadium on March 21. Teams from the city’s Cal Ripkin Baseball League had the chance to walk the bases in a “parade of teams” before the start of the game.
Councilman Tande participated in the groundbreaking ceremony at Veramonte Park on Saturday, March 14.
The park, located at 12741 N. 140th Ave., will be receiving various improvements including: a splash pad, parking lot and restrooms.
